How to prepare for 11 Plus Exams (overview) |
|
STEP 1
Contact your LEA or the schools to which you will be applying to find out which 11 plus exam papers your child will be sitting. Many counties use eleven plus exam papers written by nferNelson. These 11 plus exam papers are either multiple-choice or standard format tests. Many of the question types are the same in both formats, so a large number of the practice papers available are useful practice for either test, but it is important to know which format your child will be given.
Information about your child's 11 plus exams that you should establish:
- Exam paper DISCIPLINE i.e Verbal Reasoning (VR), Non-verbal Reasoning (NVR), 11+ Maths, 11+ English
- Exam paper FORMAT i.e. Standard Format or Multiple-choice
- NUMBER OF TEST PAPERS your child will sit e.g. Bucks children sit two Verbal Reasoning multiple-choice papers
- NUMBER OF QUESTIONS per test paper
- TIME ALLOWED for each test paper
- DATES your child will sit the eleven plus exam papers
We are based in Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire (Bucks) and prepare students for the Bucks eleven plus exams as well as an increasing number of students from the neighbouring county of Berkshire (Berks) who choose to apply to both Bucks and Berks. However, many other counties use the same 11 Plus exam papers so the guidance we offer applies for all nferNelson 11 plus test papers. If your child will not be sitting an nfer test paper, it is advisable to find out as much as you can from local tutors and teachers as to which types of questions are likely to appear in the exam paper. In most cases, you will find that there are not many publicly available practice papers for any bespoke 11 plus exams (non-nferNelson) and therefore the practice questions and core skills building materials found on this website will be useful to exercise your child's mind and get them thinking along the right lines.
